Transfer Aosta: is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta. Always a very important city, crossroads of commercial exchanges, it was founded around 25 B.C. by the Emperor Augustus and called Augusta Praetoria. Now the city is an important artistic heritage site, rich in monuments, buildings and walls all dating back to Roman times. Its central position also allows those who make it their destination for a winter holiday to move easily between the different ski resorts that are not far from the city (Pila, La Thuile, Courmayeur, Cogne and Cervinia). For these reasons, the town has always been dedicated to both cultural and skiing tourism. There are numerous hotels and restaurants to suit all tastes, and it is easy to see the craftsmen at work in the historic centre. The famous international Sant Orso Fair is held every year on 30 and 31 January in the streets of the old town.
